Marilyn Michels MSN RN CRRN CIC FAPIC has worked in infection control for over 40 years in various settings.  She is an infection preventionist at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  She has presented on numerous topics related to infection prevention and developed an orientation program for infection preventionists across the state.  She has been a member of WWCI for several years. She has conducted periodic risk assessments of instrument and scope processing practices based on the AAMI standards over the past 30 years.  She believes there should be a a collaborative solid relationship between the individuals that process surgical instruments/scopes, including the sharing of surgical site infection rates.  She has been supportive of extending that collaboration to the end users, facilities management, and environmental services.
